How to split a PDF
- 1
Add your PDF
Drop the file in. Every page renders as a thumbnail, so you select what you can see rather than guessing at page numbers.
- 2
Choose the pages
Click thumbnails to select them, or type a range like 1-3, 7, 12-15. Selected pages highlight; everything else dims so the extraction is unambiguous.
- 3
Extract and download
The selected pages become a new PDF in their original order. Your source file is untouched — you can immediately make a second extraction from the same document.
What splitting is for
The commonest real cases: sending one chapter of a long report without the rest, submitting only the pages a portal asks for, pulling a single signed page out of a contract pack, or breaking a scan that exceeds an upload limit into parts that don't. Extraction copies the pages exactly — same text layer, same image quality, same links within the extracted range.
One honest limitation: links that point from an extracted page to a page you didn't extract have nowhere to go, and readers simply ignore them. Bookmarks pointing outside the extracted range disappear for the same reason.
Privacy matters more here than almost anywhere
Think about why people split documents: to share part of something whose remainder is private. The salary page stays, the rest of the HR file doesn't; the diagnosis letter goes to the insurer, the full medical history doesn't. Uploading the entire document to a splitting service defeats the purpose — the sensitive whole has now been on someone else's server in order to share the harmless part.
This tool reads the file on your device and builds the extract there too. The pages you didn't select are never transmitted anywhere, because nothing is.
Frequently asked questions
How do I extract just one page from a PDF?
Click its thumbnail (or type its number), then extract. You get a one-page PDF and the original stays intact.
Can I split a PDF into multiple separate files?
Run the tool once per output file — extract pages 1–5, download, then extract 6–10 from the same loaded document. The source stays loaded between extractions so this takes seconds.
Does the extracted PDF lose quality?
No. Pages are copied, not re-rendered — text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution. The extract is byte-faithful to those pages.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Remove the password first with the Unlock tool. Encrypted pages can't be read, so they can't be copied out.
Is my document uploaded?
No. Selection and extraction happen in your browser, which matters particularly for splitting — the whole point is usually that the rest of the document is private.
What page range formats work?
Single pages (7), ranges (2-6), and combinations separated by commas (1-3, 7, 12-15). Order in the output follows the original document order.
