How to remove the password from a mobile bill PDF

5 min read · Updated 6 October 2026

Postpaid phone bills arrive as locked PDFs for the same reason statements do: they go out by email, and the bill has your name, number and address on it. The lock is fine until you need to actually use the bill — claim it on expenses, forward it to an employer, or keep a tidy folder of them — and you are retyping a password every time.

As with statements, the password is a formula, not a secret you were meant to memorise. It is printed in the bill email, and it is built from details you know.

The provider formats

Passwords are case-sensitive, with no spaces or special characters.

Airtel — date of birth registered with Airtel, as DDMMYYYY (for example 05121988). If that is rejected, try your 10-digit mobile number.

Jio — first 4 letters of the account holder's name in lower case + last 4 digits of the Jio number (an 8-character password; ignore spaces in the name).

Vi (Vodafone Idea) — first 4 letters of the name in lower case + last 4 digits of the Vi number.

If none of these open it, the bill email states the exact format your account uses — that is always the final word.

Removing it for good

  1. Open Unlock PDF and drop the bill in.
  2. Enter the password using your provider's format above.
  3. Download the unlocked copy. It opens directly from then on, keeps its real text, and can be merged or attached freely.

It all happens in your browser — the bill and the password never leave your device. That matters here too: a phone bill is a small identity-theft starter kit (full name, number, billing address), and uploading it to an unknown server to "unlock" it hands all of that over along with the password. (Why that is the risky step.)

Useful follow-ups

  • Keeping bills for expense claims? Unlock each one, then merge a year of them into a single file.
  • Need it under an email size limit? Compress it.
  • Several bills, same provider? The password formula is the same for all of them, so you can clear a backlog quickly.

Try it now

Unlock PDF runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the password for my Airtel / Jio / Vi bill PDF?

Airtel typically uses your date of birth as DDMMYYYY (or your 10-digit number as a fallback). Jio and Vi use the first 4 letters of the account name in lower case plus the last 4 digits of the number. The exact format is also stated in the bill email.

Do I need the password to remove it?

Yes — this decrypts the bill with the password that opens it, it does not crack unknown passwords. For phone bills you have not really forgotten it; it is a formula from your name, date of birth and number, printed in the bill email.

Is it safe to unlock a phone bill online?

Only if the file is not uploaded. A phone bill carries your name, number and address, so uploading it plus its password to a server is a real privacy risk. This tool decrypts in your browser, so nothing is transmitted — you can confirm it by disconnecting from the internet first.

Will the unlocked bill keep its text?

Yes. The tool re-saves a real PDF, so the text stays selectable and the file stays small, rather than becoming an image of the bill.
